Artists looking for a permanent base in Wrocław have a new opportunity to secure a studio, with six properties now being offered through an open rental competition.
The City of Wrocław is inviting applications from people actively working in culture and the arts who intend to make the city their place of creative work. The properties can be used for visual arts, literary or theatre-related activity, with applications open until 16 October 2026.
The initiative offers something increasingly valuable to working artists: dedicated space in the city where creative work can take place over a longer period.
Six premises across Wrocław
The six premises range from approximately 41 to 93 square metres, with rental agreements lasting either five or ten years depending on the property.
They are located at:

All six premises require renovation. Any renovation work must be organised and paid for by the successful tenant or tenants. The city advises applicants to inspect the condition of a property and review the relevant renovation documentation before applying.
The spaces are intended strictly for artistic activity. They cannot be used as accommodation and are not being offered for purchase.
Artists can apply together
The competition is not limited to individual applicants. Several artists can apply jointly for a studio through a co-tenancy application.
Applicants can also indicate more than one preferred property. Where several premises are selected, they must be listed in order of preference. The competition committee will take those preferences into account alongside the scores awarded during the assessment process.
This could make the scheme particularly relevant to artists who already share working practices or want to establish a collective studio.
Who can apply?
The competition is aimed at artists who are actively working in culture and the arts and who intend to pursue their creative work in Wrocław.
According to the city's competition rules, eligible applicants include:
graduates of art schools or artistic university courses;
members of professional artists' unions and associations;
non-professional artists recommended by creative or academic communities.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate their artistic activity and provide supporting material documenting their work.
What needs to be submitted?
Applications must include the relevant rental or co-rental form, together with supporting documents.
Depending on the applicant's circumstances, these can include a copy of an arts qualification, confirmation of membership of an artists' organisation or recommendations from creative or academic circles.
Applicants must also provide an artistic CV documenting their activity and achievements, along with a portfolio presenting their main creative work.
The application is submitted electronically through e-Doręczenia and must be electronically signed. A scanned copy of a paper application with a handwritten signature is not taken into account.
The deadline is 23:59 on 16 October 2026, with the date and time of receipt determining whether an application has been submitted on time.
How applications will be assessed
A competition committee representing Wrocław's creative and artistic academic communities will assess the submissions.
The assessment covers four main areas:
the contribution of the applicant's work to the development of Wrocław's cultural life;
current creative activity and previous artistic achievements;
documented artistic output;
plans for future artistic work.
The competition is due to be decided by 10 November 2026, with the results published in the Bulletin of Public Information of the City of Wrocław.
Viewing the premises
Potential applicants can arrange viewings with the relevant property administrator before submitting an application.
There are specific viewing arrangements for some of the premises. In particular, the property at ul. Jedności Narodowej 49a/14 can only be viewed on designated dates: 16 and 23 September and 1 October 2026, by prior arrangement.
The other properties can also be viewed by appointment during the application period, subject to arrangements with their respective administrators.
Given that all six premises require renovation, viewing the space before applying is particularly important.
A practical opportunity for Wrocław's creative community
For artists already working in Wrocław, the competition offers the possibility of securing a dedicated workspace for several years rather than relying on short-term arrangements.
It also has relevance for the city's wider international creative community. Wrocław's artistic scene includes people working across visual art, theatre, literature, design and other disciplines, alongside students and graduates of its arts institutions. For artists building a long-term connection with the city, having a permanent place to work can be an important part of establishing that base.
The premises themselves are spread across different parts of Wrocław, from central streets to neighbourhood locations, giving successful applicants the chance to establish their studios within existing local communities.
For anyone considering applying, however, the renovation requirement should be factored into both the practical and financial side of the decision.
