Do you know someone in Wrocław who spends their time, money or energy helping animals? You can still nominate them for the city's Wrocławskie Serce dla Zwierząt award.
The annual award is returning for its 11th edition, recognising people who provide regular, unpaid help to animals. Previous nominees and recipients have included private individuals, foundations, associations and institutions working in Wrocław, across the region and further afield.
This year's nominations are open until 2 October 2026, with the results due to be announced at an awards ceremony on 25 October.
Who can be nominated?
The organisers are looking for people whose work includes caring for animals, arranging veterinary treatment, providing food or helping animals find new homes.
A nomination can be submitted by any natural person living in Wrocław. One candidate can be put forward on each form.
Barbara Borzymowska, Wrocław's spokesperson for animal affairs and chair of the award's chapter, says that simply putting someone's name forward is itself a form of recognition.
“Wrocławskie Serce dla Zwierząt is a way of recognising or rewarding those who are willing to devote their time, their money and their emotions to helping those who have no voice - animals. They are in a rather difficult position, considering their place on the social ladder. So the more people who help, and help sensibly - I stress that - the better. We award the distinction as well as additional honours. But the nomination itself is already something worthy of recognition.”
How to nominate someone
The nomination form and instructions can be found on the official website of Wrocław City Council.
The form should include enough information to identify the candidate and describe their activities on behalf of animals.
The award will be presented on 25 October 2026. A commemorative plaque marking the distinction is displayed on the main grandstand building at Wrocław Racecourse Partynice.
